The Domaine du Colombier, located in Northern Rhône Valley, has been in the Viale family for three generations. First vines were planted at the foot of the Hermitage hill in 1929, but prior to 1992, the entire production was sold to local négociants. Once the decision was taken to market wines under the Domaine du Colombier label, the estate became one of the finest sources of high-class, sensibly priced northern Rhône Syrah. Today the estate is run by Florent Viale who owns some of the finest plots of the appellation, right next to the famous Hermitage hill. Following sustainable practices, Florent focuses on fruit ripeness and matures his wine for long period (2 to 3 years in large 600L barrels) to remove the need for fining and filtration and obtain maximum character and complexity.
