Serralunga’s Guido Porro is an estate which may fly slightly under the radar, but that produces wines which are everything one could hope for in traditionally made Barolo. They are expressive of their vineyard sites, the balance of the wines is serene and the modest charm and hard work of Guido and his family is reflected in the glass. When chatting with other producers across Barolo about our tasting schedule, the mention of Guido Porro elicited nods of approval and knowing smiles on the faces of winemakers, and it is difficult to see the wines not becoming more and more popular as they are better known. Vinification is traditional, with 36 months in large oak botti, yet the fruit is generous and expressive even when the wines are young.
