High Scoring Valpolicella by Corte Cavedini

This young family estate is already getting its fair share of attention with wines receiving 90+ points from the highly well-respected Decanter World Wine Awards two years in a row.

25 years ago, Umberto Cavedini acquired seven hectares of vines on the Valpolicella hills in Veneto. Calcareous soil combined with great sun exposure allows the grapes to achieve both phenolic and sugar ripeness. This is the perfect environment for native grapes Corvina and Rondinella to thrive, giving low yields and producing very elegant and complex wines with a velvety texture.

Valpolicella is a delicate and soft red that is very popular in Italy and is also used to make Ripasso, an ancient winemaking technique which has been used for centuries in the region. Every year a portion of Valpolicella passes over the semi-dried grapes used to make Amarone and undergoes a second fermentation adding more structure, body and a lovely sweetness to the wine.

Both 2019 Valpolicella & 2016 Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore were awarded a silver medal at the latest Decanter World Wine Awards and we highly recommend them.
