South of France Wine

The South of France is a vast area covering several wine regions with a multitude of terroir and styles from east to west. It offers arguably the best value wines of France with many affordable options alongside superb and complex wines from lesser known areas. Provence, the oldest winemaking area in France, is home to the popular salmon-pink, light and delicate rosé.  Languedoc Roussillon, traditionally planted with Mediterranean grapes is responsible for the juicy reds of Corbieres and Minervois.  The area benefitted from the Vin de Pays (VDP) classification system, introduced in the 1980s, which brought a looser framework of laws for growers and has since led to many VDP wines competing with the quality of the traditional AOCS.
