Regional Italian Wines

With over 300 indigenous grape varieties spread throughout the country, Italy has an abundance of lesser known wines and DOCs well worth discovering. Joyful wines such as Sangiovese di Romagna, Puglia’s Primitivo and Nero d’Avola from Sicily have become very popular in the UK and offer incredible value. Serious wines are also produced in Campania and Basilicata. Their volcanic soils are perfectly suited to making crisp and mineral whites. Fiano di Avelino and Greco di Tufo are ones to watch alongside the broad, smoky and age worthy red wines made from the black grape Aglianico – also known as the ‘Nebbiolo of the South’. Read more…
