Castilla Y León

Located northwest of Madrid, Castilla Y León is mostly ruled by a harsh climate with hot summers and extremely cold winters. Rueda’s whites Verdejo and deep and tannic Tempranillo reds in Toro are amongst the best wines of the district, but the real star is Ribera del Duero. Following the successes of Vega Sicilia and Pingus, this young winemaking region has already earned its own DOC and has become Rioja’s rival. Towards the north, next to Galicia, lies up-and-coming Bierzo. Benefitting from a maritime climate it is the home of Mencia which produces generous reds.
