Founded in 1692, Taylor’s stands as one of the most venerable Port houses. As an independently owned establishment, they have pioneered the development of Aged Tawny ports and continue to be celebrated for their exquisite Vintage ports. Taylor’s 1985 vintage is a prime example, regarded among the finest of its year. With a complex, dense palate that is still maturing, it promises to evolve further over the next 5 to 20 years. Often likened to the esteemed Château Latour of Portugal, Taylor’s ports are notably robust in their youth yet remain impressive. Of all vintage ports, those crafted by Taylor require the longest time to reach maturity, retaining an inner strength and firmness that endures for decades.
This particular port presents a medium ruby hue, exuding beautiful aromas of flowers and fresh plum, accented by subtle hints of stems. It is full-bodied and medium-sweet, with luxurious silky tannins and an extraordinarily long finish. The 1985 vintage is just beginning to reveal its potential, offering delightful flavors with a promising longevity, though it is already a pleasure to experience now.
