About the producer
About the producer: Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Antoine Jaboulet started working the land located North of the Rhône Valley in 1834 before his sons, Paul and Henri took over the domaine. Paul gave his name to the business and generations have continued to succeed one another. The Frey family, owners of Champagne Ayala and Château La Lagune in Bordeaux, acquired Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné in 2006, and work alongside Frédéric Jaboulet today. The estate is famous for its l’Hermitage La Chapelle, with the vintage 1961 classed amongst the Twelve mythical bottles of the 20th century. View our selection.
Vineyard & Winemaking
The 100 hectares are planted with Syrah, the principle and sole red grape, and some Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier. Vines are an average of 40 years old, with the most illustrious being nearly 80 years old. Red wines are matured in oak barrels for 12 to 24 months and, whites go under malolactic fermentation, and are aged on their lees in oak barrels until the beginning of summer in order to obtain complex aromas.
Wine Produced
Northern Rhône AOC: Côte Rôtie, Crozes Hermitage, Cornas, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Saint-Péray and Hermitage with the most iconic being L’Hermitage la Chapelle Rouge & Blanc.
Southern Rhône AOC: Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Châteauneuf du Pape, Tavel and Beaume de Venises and Côtes du Rhône under the label ‘Parallèle 45’ and ‘Petit Jaboulet’. -
