Product description
This wine is a tribute to Florentina, Josep’s mother. The vineyards are located in Capçanes, Montsant DO. Vines from two plots aged between 75 and 100 years old. Grapes are hand-harvested. Once grapes are destemmed, they are transferred to a concrete tank of 5,200 litres for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is pressed and transferred to an oval foudre made of Austrian oak from Stockinger for 12 months.
Enticing aromas of raspberries, strawberries with subtle dark roasted notes and hints of caramel. Complex layers of herbs, wet stones, and forest floor. Pure finesse with silky tannins and undertone minerality. Great length and a complex aftertaste.
"The 2022 La Florens is 100% Garnatxa Negro from Montsant, sourced from old vines planted in calcareous soils. Fermented with stems and aged in foudre, this garnet wine delivers a delicate aroma of rose, sweet bread and tangerine. A reductive, faintly bloody note lends complexity against a cedar backdrop. Dry, finely concentrated and a bit rough due to the stem tannins, this balanced wine releases its flavors at the back of the throat. This is a delicious, ethereal Garnatxa. Drinking Window 2025 - 2038" 95 points, Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous "A touch of white mushrooms to the red berries, pomegranates, dried herbs and cherry stones. Pure, elegant and well structured on the palate, with a medium body and a taut, textured finish. Pristine and refined. Drink or hold." 93 points, Zekun Shuai, JamesSuckling.com "Garnacha from a relatively warm area made with particular care. The aromatic expression is precise and open, giving evidence that the grapes were picked early. The wine is warm but keeping nice freshness. Extremely clean, with no evidence of oak, although the wine was aged for some time. Probably a bit linear on the finish, but with great balance and purity anyway." 92 points, Pedro Ballesteros MW, Club Oenologique
