Product description
Rated as one of the ‘four star’ producers in Beaujolais by Robert Parker, Jean Paul Brun aims to produce old fashioned Gamay. Using indigenous yeasts and traditional winemaking techniques from Burgundy, his artisanal wines have structure and character.
L’Ancien is sourced from Jean Paul’s oldest vines (40 to 60 years old) planted on sandy clay-limestone slopes. Grapes are destemmed and aged in concrete vats for 9 months, allowing the wine to express the purity of fruits and character of its terroir. Intense aromas of ripe raspberry and cherry fruits. Medium to full-bodied with supple tannins well-balanced with a sharp acidity and a good length.

The 2020 Beaujolais l’Ancien soars from the glass with scents of cherries, red fruit compote and plums. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's rich and enveloping, with succulent acids and an expansive finish. More gourmand than its 2019 counterpart, it's a dramatic, appealing wine that's already drinking well.

This wine is way more than you expect from basic Beaujolais, with generous red-berry and cherry fruit, plus positive, supple tannins and crisp acidity that together make this taste much lighter than you expect for 13.5% alcohol. Good length, too! Drink now.
