Blandy is the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira trade to still own and manage their company.

Madeira is so often over looked and underrated but with 36 years ageing in cask before bottling, this is a superb single vintage from Blandy’s.  Rich and deep brown colour with golden highlights and dried fruits and apricots aromas. The palate is medium sweet and full bodied with spices, toffee, vanilla and a lovely texture. Gentle acidity leaves a long persistent finish. A rare opportunity to try something so genuinely brilliant.

    About the producer: Blandy’s Madeira

Established by John Blandy in 1811, Blandy’s is the world’s leading producer of premium Madeira wine. This is the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira trade to still own and manage their company. In 1989, Blandy’s formed a partnership with the Symington’s, the famous Port House owners, to form the Madeira Wine Company. Today the company is run by Chris Blandy, members of the 6th and 7th generations. View our range.

Ageing in “canteiro”:  Wines are aged for 4 years in seasoned oak casks that are stored by grape variety and vintage and gently heat up by natural warm. The casks are never 100% full, to allow a micro-oxygenation and develop the unique and concentrated character of the wine.

The “Estufagem”: Once Blandy’s Tinta Negra 3 years old wine is fortified, it is gently warmed up to 45°C over 4 months, then stabilised in wooden vats for two years. After cooling, the wines are aged for 2 years in Brazilian satinwood vats.

    Wines Produced

Tinta Negra (3 years old), Sercial (5 & 10 years old), Verdelho (5 & 10 years old), Bual (5 & 10 years old) and Malmsey (5 & 10 years old), Alvada 5 years old (combining Malmsey and Bual), Tarrantez 20 years old and Bual 30 years old. They also have a collection of Vintage Madeira and in 2000 they led the way with the introduction of a high quality but affordable Madeira of a single year, known as “Colheita“.
