In Bond case of Syrah Keir, Tua Rita 2016 is available on allocation only.
Amongst the ‘Super Tuscans’, Tua Rita has the most humble origins, but some of the most consistently astonishing scores from wine critics. Established in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti with just two hectares, the estate was planted further south of Bolgheri than anyone else had dared to go. Initially supplying grapes to Sassicaia, they began bottling their wine in the 1990s and in 1999 received their first 100 point score.
The Syrah Keir is vinified in Amphora, and 2016 is the first ever release of this rare wine. Approximately only 200 cases have been produced.
“2016 is the first vintage of this 100% Syrah, and what an exciting wine it is! It’s kept on its skins in amphorae for six months, followed by a further five months maturation in old oak. The lack of overt new oak allows the pure and transparent quality of the fruit to shine much more, and personally I love this new direction – it’s a beautifully poised Syrah with typical violet and smoky bacon aromas and ripe, fragrant fruit with heady, creamy spice…and much more. It’s elegant and smooth, with fine-textured tannins and a bright, lively, vivacious palate. A delightful wine, and the rising star of the tasting. 97 points” Susan Hulme MW, Decanter.com
“A firm and chewy red with pepper, spice and berry character. Hints of nuts. Full body. Plenty of fruit. Six months in orcio (like amphora) then three in used barrels. New wine. Get it. 1,800 bottles made. Drink or hold. Made from organic grapes. 95 points.” James Suckling
