    Product description

Recently acquired by Domaine Pierre Amadieu, these hand crafted wines are sourced from old vines and low yields (in some cases as low as 18 hectolitres per hectare, half the average yield in the Rhône). Grapes are hand-harvested and de-stemmed before fermentation with local yeasts in large cement vats, without pumping over or racking. The wines are fermented in old oak Burgundy barrels (‘pieces’).  The reds are not fined or filtered.

Made with 70% Grenache from vines over 100 years old. Intense prune and cherry fruit with earthy aromas balanced by herbal notes, the palate has licquorice, spice and powerful tannins, which are now ageing well.

About the producer: Domaine Pierre Amadieu

Domaine Pierre Amadieu was founded in 1929 with just with 7 hectares of vines. At the time, wines were matured in an old railway tunnel, which was an ideal temperature. In the 1950s, two properties, Romane and La Machotte, were added to the estate which is currently the largest in Gigondas, spreading over 137 hectares. Each parcel is carefully selected to express this exceptional terroir producing elegant wines with great length and freshness. Today Pierre Amadieu Jr, 3rd generation of the family, runs the company helped by his cousins.
