The Catherine’s Block label is reserved for the very best wines from Mount Brown Vineyards in Waipara, North Canterbury. As well as superb fruit, the wine gains creamy lees notes from being barrel fermented, with wild yeasts, adding a smoky depth and complexity to the wine.
A rich Pinot Noir, with ripe flavours of plum and cherries, interlaced with hints of black pepper spice and complex forest floor aromas. The palate is round and generous with melted tannins. The grapes are taken from specific rows in the vineyard which are subject to more intense viticultural treatment and lower yields; even then only a few barrels made from those rows make it into the range.
