The Ponsots ‘love wine because it is alive’ and apply biodynamic practices in the vineyard and age their wines in oak barrels which are at least 10 years old. Their Burgundies do require time to be appreciated but when they reach maturity, they are powerful yet elegant wine with great complexity.

Lying on the lowest and most shallow slopes of the grand cru area, close to the border with Morey-Saint-Denis, Charmes Chambertain produces softer reds than other Grand Cru in Gevrey.

    About the producer: Domaine Ponsot

Domaine Ponsot was founded by William Ponsot in 1872, when he settled in Morey St Denis returning from the Franco-Prussian war. His successors were some of the first to understand the importance of estate bottling and clonal selection. Today Rose-Marie Ponsot is the sole director of the company. The Ponsots ‘love wine because it is alive’ and follow a ‘non interventionist’ philosophy in order to avoid the standardisation of their wines. Domaine Ponsot mainly produces Grand Cru including Corton Bressande, Charmes-Chambertain, Griottes-Chambertain, Clos de Vougeot and Corton Charlemagne. The estate also produces some Premier Cru under the appellation of Morey Saint Denis and Chambolle Musigny alongside some AOC Village in Saint Romain, Gevrey Chambertain, Morey Saint Denis and Chambolle Musigny.
