Chateau Clinet lies on the famous terroir of the Gunz gravel terrace, which runs from Libourne up to Pomerol and Figeac in St. Emilion. Planted to 90% Merlot, which thrives on deep clay sub-soils and gravel, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc, the wines at Clinet always show remarkable precision and finesse. The first traces of viticulture on the land that today belongs to Ch. Clinet date back to the 16th century, with successive generations handing down ownership and management of the Estate until its eventual purchase by the Laborde family in 1998. For the last 10 years the estate has been magnificently managed by Ronan Laborde.
“Ch. Clinet are one of a handful of Chateaux who always price their primeur release fairly. Coming in below the current market for 2016 (by 11%) and 2015 (by 17%) the 2018 looks like a very well-considered release. This is one of the finest vintages for the Chateau and comes highly recommend as the wines of Pomerol continue to see demand far outstrip supply.
Vibrant, pure cherry and blueberry on the nose, great energy here. Touch of olive tapenade and cedar. Very pretty red fruit, concentrated plum and blueberry, gentle and seductive tannins. Complex depth, a lovely freshness and mineralité – this is a very serious Clinet, amongst the best I’ve tried from barrel here. Drink 2025 to 2050+. 18/ 20 Points.”

“Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Clinet begins a little coy and then, with coaxing, opens out to vibrant black cherries, kirsch, baked plums and cinnamon stick scents with hints of cloves and anise plus earthy truffles and fungi wafts. Full-bodied and chock-full of bright, energetic fruit, it has a firm, finely grained structure and long, fragrant finish. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aging is anticipated to last for 16 months in French oak barriques, 75% new. 94-96+ Points.”
