George 7: is a brand-new Château in the over-performing and undervalued appellation of Fronsac, the lesser-known right bank appellation neighbouring Pomerol and St. Emilion which lie to the East; the latter with which its wines share many similarities. Davy’s are excited to be working on bringing this wonderful Fronsac to the UK.
Sally Evans has lived and worked in France for the last 25 years. In 2015 she made the inspired decision to purchase a dilapidated property and empty winery with three hectares of 35-year-old Merlot vines, nestled in the heart of Saillans, Fronsac. The Merlot flourishes on terroir of clay soil and the underlying limestone plateau. Experts guiding the estate are Anthony Appollot and Bruno Lacoste (who started his career with Michel Rolland) who also consult for several very well-known left and right bank Châteaux.
What a seductive nose! Wonderfully fresh, depth of blackcurrant, liquorice and a kick of clove. Beautiful purity. Fine tannins on the strawberry and hedgerow fruit fuelled fresh palate, well-judged oak and great persistence on the spicy finish. Better than the 2018? Could be. Bravo. – Davy’s Wine Merchants
Bright zippy, great freshness to the fruit. A plush 100% Merlot, with layers of chocolate and damson that build up over the palate. Another good Fronsac in the 2019 vintage, from a new winery now in its 3rd vintage. 30% new oak. Drinking Window 2023 – 2035 – 92 Points, Jane Anson, Decanter
