2018 Château Haut-Bages Libéral, 5ème Grand Cru Classé Pauillac – En Primeur is now available.
Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a Fifth Growth situated in Pauillac with enviably-located vineyards next to Château Latour and Château Pichon Baron. Originally owned by the Libéral family from the 18th Century, the estate passed in to the ownership of the Taillan Group (owner of several other Bordeaux properties including Gruaud Larose and Ferrière) in 1983. Much of the vineyards are planted on a deep gravel plateau but there are also chalky limestone and clay soils. Farming is organic (in the process of certification) with the eventual aim to convert fully to biodynamics. Quality here has been consistently brilliant since the modernisation of facilities in 2000.
“A fantastic wine with lovely depth of ripe fruit and transparency and beauty. Full bodied. Succulent and rich tannins to the gorgeous fruit. From biodynamically grown grapes. 96-97 points.”
James Suckling, April 2019.
