About the producer: Domaine du Grand Tinel

Located north of Château Beaucastel and next to Château Rayas, two of the most prestigious wineries in the appellation, Domaine du Grand Tinel in its current state was established in 1972, due to the marriage of two long-established winemaking families of Establet and Jeune. It now has 56 hectares of vineyards within Châteauneuf du Pape, planted with Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Grenache Blanc, Clairette, and Bourboulenc, used for Châteauneuf du Pape red and white wines along with 18 more hectares planted with grapes destined for Côtes-du-Rhône wines.

Since 2005 children Christophe, Beatrice and Isabelle are in charge of the estate, helped with oenologist Philippe Cambie, work meticulously in both vineyard and cellar to produce powerful yet refine wines full of character. Innovation is key to their success. In the vineyard, although Grenache noir (the true essence of Châteauneuf) is the most planted variety, Christophe has started to grow some Muscardin, one of the lesser known 13 grapes allowed in the appellation to add complexity to the blend. In their recently modernised 10 meters deep cellars, they age their Grenache in foudres (2000L), Syrah in barriques (225) and Mourvedre in demi muids (600L). A tailored maturing process designed for optimum results.
