Thierry & Jean Paul Usseglio own 24 hectares of vine in Chateauneuf du Pape, planted on typical galets but also clay/limestone and sandy soils. Their wines are rich and silky with ripe fruits.
“The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition is an exact blend of 82% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest Cinsault and Mourvedre. Aged half in cement tanks and the rest in foudres, the wine displays some dusty tannins, which sometimes are an issue with this vintage, but soft berry fruit, roasted herbs and plenty of kirsch, lavender and licorice as well. It is a classic Provencal wine to drink over the next 8-10 years.” – 90pts Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, October 2011
Usseglio et fils was founded in 1948 by Francis Usseglio. His son Pierre took over the estate after him and today his two sons Jean-Pierre and Thierry are in charged. They own 22 hectares of vineyards that spread out over 15 different small parcels in Chateauneuf du Pape. The vineyards are planted to 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault, 2% Counoise and 2% Muscardin. Fruit is 100% destemmed and the wine is usually aged for 14-16 months in concrete tanks before bottling. View our selection.
