Cockburn’s & Co has always been a pioneer in Douro. Founded in 1815 by Robert Cockburn, the company was one of the first to plant single varietal blocks. They also invested in the remote region of Douro Superior that has proved to be successful. Like many other they had difficulties after the Second World War and were joined by other families until the Symington Family Estates acquired all the assets of Cockburn’s in 2006, including vineyards and stocks of ageing port and helped the reputation of the estate rise again. Alongside their famous Vintage ports including prestigious Quinta dos Canais, the firm produces a range of White, Ruby, Tawny, LBV and Special Reserve.
