Originally one large estate, divided into three after the French revolution (Chateau Labegorce, Labegorce Zede and L’Abbe Grosse) reunited by late owner Hubert Perrodo. 53 hectares of vineyards, planted to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and a density of 9,000 vines per hectare, averaging 30 years of age. The terroir is mostly sandy, gravel with some sand mixed with limestone. The wine is aged in 50% new French oak barrels for an average of 15 months. Average production 12,000 cases.
“Smoky, cedar aromas are very apparent, with a slight floral hint coming through. Ripe dark plums and blackberries combine with a cinnamon note and a smooth mouthfeel. 15.5-16/20 Points.”

“Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Labégorce is a little subdued by cedar to begin, giving way to a core of plum preserves, Black Forest cake and Indian spices with wafts of garrigue and lavender. Full, concentrated and laden with black fruit preserves, it has an approachable frame of firm, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing on a peppery note. 91-93 Points.”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown, the Wine Advocate, April 2019.
