Lanessan is a benchmark for Haut-Médoc, famed as one of the best estates to be missed out of the 1855 Classification. Lanessan later declared itself to be a ‘Grand Cru Hors Classé’…a classless wine (in the best sense). It’s also famously long-lived often needing a few more years in the cellar than comparable wines. Winemaker Paz Espejo has been in charge since 2009, the 45 hectares of vineyards adjoin AOC Saint-Julien, with an average vine age of 40 years.
“The 2018 Lanessan is deep garnet-purple colored with black cherries, cassis, mulberries and baked plums on the nose with herbs, earth and tea hints. Medium to full-bodied, it is a little chewy and herbal with the oak poking through on the finish. 89-91 Points.”
