Very fresh and elegant vintage port with intense blackcurrant fruits, and first hints of maturity. incredible balance of fine fruit and the first hints of bottle maturity.
“Hold on to your hat. This is the best Fonseca since 1977 – probably even better than that of the legendary vintage – more like the breathtaking 1948. Masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Big, full bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish.” – 100 Pts James Suckling, The Wine Spectator, April 1997
Located in the Douro Valley the firm was founded in 1815 by Fonsecas and Monteiros before being led by the Guimaraens family, who established Fonseca reputation as a ‘first growth’ Vintage Port house. Today the Yeatmans and their descendants are in charge. Since 1970 they have invested in vineyard ownership, taken a leading role in vineyard renovation and have become a pioneer of organic and sustainable viticulture. Fonseca’s 3 distinctive terroir, Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo António, defines the character of their wines.
They are mainly famous for Vintage Port, Guimaraens Vintage, Bin No 27 and their limited release of a Bicentenary Edition Crusted Port to commemorate 200 years of family tradition and achievement.
