Davy’s Tastings offer unique opportunities to sample wines from the world’s great wine producing regions and to taste under expert guidance in a convivial atmosphere. For this tasting, we are delighted to welcome Pauline Lurton to Davy’s to enjoy and evening of Château Haut-Bages Libéral and fine food.
Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a Fifth Growth situated in Pauillac with enviably-located vineyards next to Château Latour and Château Pichon Baron. Originally owned by the Libéral family from the 18th Century, the estate passed in to the ownership of the Taillan Group (owner of several other Bordeaux properties including Gruaud Larose and Ferrière) in 1983. Much of the vineyards are planted on a deep gravel plateau but there are also chalky limestone and clay soils. Farming is organic (in the process of certification) with the eventual aim to convert fully to biodynamics. Quality here has been high and consistent since the modernisation of facilities in 2000.
After a Champagne reception, Pauline will talk us through five different vintages including the fantastic 2005. The tasting is followed by a specially prepared 4-course menu, with a wine paired with each course and Pauline on hand to answer any questions.
