    Product description

Hidalgo is still family run, currently being overseen by the eighth generation of the Hidalgo family. Passing down from generation to generation, continuity and quality have always been the most important themes for the company, which uses only grapes from their own vineyards in Jérez Superior.

A top notch Manzanilla made from grapes sourced solely from the Pastrana vineyard in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This is a Pasada style, meaning this fortified white wine has been aged for longer in American oak casks. Aromas are delicate and yeasty. On the palate it’s dry, crisp and elegant with hints of roasted nuts. A real pleasure for Sherry lovers.

  • About the producer

About the producer: Bodegas Hidalgo – La Gitana

Established in 1792, Bodegas Hidalgo is one of the oldest Sherry producers in existence, it is widely regarded as the definitive Manzanilla house. To this day, Hidalgo is still family run, currently being overseen by the eighth generation of the Hidalgo family. Passing down from generation to generation, continuity and quality have always been the most important themes for the company, which uses only grapes from their own vineyards in Jérez Superior. Hidalgo own 100% of their vineyards, which is very rare for the region and means they have complete control over quality. View our selection.

    Vineyard & Winemaking

Hidalgo has one of the most historic vineyards in the region, El Cuadrado (the Square). It appears in maps from the early 1800s in one of the main districts in the area with the highest altitude in the whole Sherry area, allowing the vineyard to get sea breezes from the Atlantic Ocean. The soil is 100% albariza, rich in carbon calcium, making it one of the best in the Sherry area.

For the ageing process of sherry, especially Manzanilla, where the winery is located and how it is built it is very important. The main winery, San Luis, is the tallest winery in the area, 14.5 meters high, built in a cathedral style, allowing the hot air to go up and maintaining a more mild temperature at the floor level where the casks are. All the Hidalgo wineries are just 300 meters from the Atlantic Ocean, influenced by the sea breeze.

    Wines Produced

Many sherries are produced at Bodegas Hidalgo with some of the best being La Gitana Manzanilla, Hidalgo Pasada Pastrana, Hidalgo Oloroso Faron, Hidalgo Triana Pedro XImenez and a range of Very Old Rare Sherries aged for over 30 years: Amontillado Napoleon, Palo Cortado Wellington and Pedro Ximenez Triana
