With vineyards that border those of the iconic Château d`Yquem, Château Rieussec has long been considered amongst Sauternes’ best. Carmes de Rieussec, their second wine, offers a seriously good introduction to fine dessert wine. Complex with notes of apricot, marmalade and honey. Excellent value Sauternes.
“Plump and open, offering green plum, nectarine and coconut notes, with a round, easy feel through the plantain-tinged finish. Tasted non-blind.” – 88-91 points Wine Spectator, April 2013

The 93 hectares are planted with 90% Sémillon, 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle. Harvests last for 6 to 8 weeks with selective pickings depending on the ripeness of the grapes and evolution of botrytis cinerea (noble rot). Wines are fermented in barrels and aged for 16 to 26 months in oak barrel, of which 50% is new.
Two wines are produced at the property; the grand vin Château Rieussec and the second vin Les Carmes de Rieussec.
