2017 Linne Calodo Sticks & Stones in bond

Paso Robles is very well-known for its famous Rhône blends and the “Rhône Rangers” that hailed from there. The region is split by the 101 Highway, with the smaller region on the western (coastal) side firmly established as being home to the very best vineyards. Linne Calodo is a short drive west of the city of Paso Robles in the highly sought Willow Creek AVA. ‘Linne Calodo’ (pronounced ‘lynn-eh ka-lodo’) is the name of the distinct limestone-based soil type found in this AVA, high in calcium and marine fossils, making it perfect for GSM Rhône varietals.

Owned by Matt and Maureen Trevisan’s, the Estate is an organically/dry-farmed vineyard which lives in harmony with the surrounding woodland. Planed in 2005, the estate vineyards (surrounding the winery) are situated around 320 metres above sea level, where the cold air and fog tends to settle in. With the differing weather patterns, the resulting wines have higher acids and a unique flavour profile. With the hillsides approaching 45 degree sloped, the vineyard encompasses all four orientations towards the sun, with mean each individual block is managed differently, producing a vast array of styles.

Matt’s winemaking style is a balance of science and art, not shy of experimentation and altering his approach to work with each vintage. It’s also one that’s leading him to the very top of his game and comparisons to the greats of the Rhône Valley (Josh Reynolds likens him to Jean-Louis Chave!). Volumes are extremely low, but all of the reds and whites are sold out in their entirety every year, such is the demand.

“The amount of black, blue, and red fruit fjust about knocks you over, and it opens up to show beautiful ground pepper, flowery incense, and spice-laced aromas and flavors. With full-bodied richness, sweet, polished tannins, and no sensation of weight or heaviness, this beauty is a brilliant wine. A blend is 71% Grenache, 22% Syrah, and 7% Mourvèdre, aged in foudre, concrete tanks, and new puncheons.”
96 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Oct. 2019)

Offered for sale under bond. Price shown is for a case (12x75cl bottles) and excludes UK duty and VAT which will be charged at the prevailing rate when the wine is released from bond.
