Domaine des Carabiniers in Roquemaure, near Avignon has used organic viticulture since 1977 and is now certified 100% biodynamic. This approach, along with its use of traditional methods and an intense passion for winemaking has enabled it to produce some of the best wines of the region and one of Davy’s favourite Rhônes.
Harvested at night to prevent oxidation and keep the freshness of the aromas and, fermented with natural yeasts. Aromas of strawberry, spices, liquorice and smoky notes with a touch of aromatic herbs. Heady, powerful and hearty wine.
This consistently reliable family domaine is now in the hands of the fifth generation – siblings Fabien and Magali Leperchois – whose 50ha of organic vineyards were certified biodynamic in 2009. This Grenache-dominant GSM has vibrantly pure and juicy red berry fruits, soft anise and wild herb tones with textured tannins and a long savoury finish. Lifted, pretty and delicious. The Demeter-certified 2017 Lirac is a blend of 50% Grenache and 25% each Mourvèdre and Syrah. It offers delicious, fruit-forward drinking yet looks to have the stuffing to last 5-6 years. Pretty cherry and garrigue notes add hints of blueberry and citrus in this medium to full-bodied, supple-textured wine that turns silky on the long, fruit-driven finish.- 92 pts Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate
