Our Winemaker Tastings & Suppers are an opportunity to spend time with some of the world’s most exciting winemakers, experiencing the wines with their expert guidance. You’ll be amazed at how much a winemaker’s personality can be expressed through their wines, and by the passion they bring to making them.
We’re delighted to welcome Daniele Pelassa for an evening tasting wonderful Barolos and other wines from his family’s 12-hectare vineyard in Montà d’Alba, Piedmont. Daniele’s father Mario established the winery in post-war Italy:
« In April of 1950 I had not yet reached the age of 10. I was one of six children living in a modest family and my mother was no longer with us. It was then I realised that the moment had come for me to give my family a hand. One Monday morning I got up early, poured out a few flasks of New Nebbiolo and took my bicycle and headed off to Turin …»
From these humble beginnings, the Pelassa family now make world class wines and their 2013 Barolo was awarded and outstanding 95 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
After a reception glass of the delicious, crisp Mario’s Bianco, Daniele will talk us through the history of the winery and winemaking in Piedmont. We’ll taste some of the estate’s finest wines, including a new single vineyard Barolo which we have shipped to the UK for the first time. The tasting is followed by a specially prepared 4-course menu, with a wine paired with each course and Daniele on hand to answer any questions.
Please note, seating may be at communal tables, menus sometimes include sharing dishes. Tasting & talk from 6.30-7.30pm followed by supper. We aim to wrap up the evening by 9.15pm.
