Owner Riccardo Lepri took over the estate after his grandfather Enos in 2001. Alongside winemaker Fabrizio Moltard, they selected the most suited grapes for the land. Following an organic approach they make delicate wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics.
After spending 16 month in french oak barrel, the wine has a deep colour with red berries and spicy note aromas. Full body with velvety tannin, the palate is round with good concentration of flavours.

Tenuta Montauto is located in one of the wildest and unspoiled corners of Tuscany’s Maremma. Owner Riccardo Lepri took over the estate after his grandfather Enos in 2001. Working alongside winemaker Fabrizio Moltard, they selected grapes that gave the best results on the land and decided to focus mainly on producing white wines, unusual for the region. Following an organic approach they make delicate wines with concentrated flavours that started to generate interest amongst critics. The hare present on the label is related to Riccardo’s surname Lepri, meaning hare in Italian. View our selection.
Located 15 km away from the coast, the estate enjoys a micro climate characterized by large variation of temperature between day and night, ideal for making wine. Out of the 200ha property, 14 are planted with 60% white and 40% red grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Malvasia, Grechetto for whites and Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Merlot for reds. Only their Pinot Noir is aged in oak for 10 to 12 months.
