Continuing our online tasting series, we are pleased to announce another fantastic tasting with our friends at West London Wine School. The tasting will be hosted on Click Meeting by West London Wine School Owner and Chief Taster, Jimmy Smith alongside owner and winemaker, Rikus Neething, presenting his range of Sémillons from the Western Cape.
The Brand and the Man
The word ‘Bizoe’ is derived from the French word ‘Bisous’, meaning little kiss, and is the creation of vintner Rikus Neethling. ‘Less is more’ is at the forefront of his vinification and viticulture philosophy allowing the production of high quality wines from the best selected grapes at his cellar in Croydon, Stellenbosch. The location in the Western Cape with blue skies and majestic mountain backdrops provides the perfect setting for Rikus to combine both his passion and knowledge for wine and South Africa. As a result, his handcrafted wines are a true reflection of the terroirs as well as the individual.
The Tasting
Rikus Neethling has a passion for the Sémillon grape (now his signature variety), fuelled by a visit to Australia’s Hunter Valley, where he found many of the region’s vines were originally cuttings from South Africa. He studied the techniques used to produce the top Hunter Valley Sémillons – built to age for many decades – and brought the principals back to the Western Cape to launch his exciting new single variety Sémillon project. Rikus will discuss his passion for the Sémillon grape and showcase his new limited production Sémillon cuvées; Robertsvleipad, Kruispad and Morningstar. With just a few hundred bottles of each wine available to the UK market, a unique chance to taste South Africa’s answer to Vat 1 Sémillon!
Tasting format
On Friday 12th June we will be joined by both Rikus and Jimmy. The live session will begin at 6.30pm and last approximately 1.5 hours. Unable to commit to the session? No problem! Anyone registered for this tasting will gain access to the video recording, so you can always revisit in the future – whether it’s because you missed participating in the live session or if you want to revisit the presentation at a later date. During the tasting, Rikus will be cover all four wines, a bottle of each wine will be delivered to you in advance of the tasting
