Opus One 2008

This legendary wine from Napa Valley started as a joint venture between Roberto Mondavi and Baron Phillipe de Rothschild in 1979. Vines are planted five to six times more densely than is typical in California, in order to produce smaller berries with less juice, more skin contact and therefore more intense flavours and aromas. After spending 18 months in oak barrel, Opus One spends another 18 months in bottle before release. Intense, complex and elegant.

“Fabulous roses, currants and dark berries on the nose that go to currants and blueberries. Full and refined with bright acidity and a precise and vivid finish of dark fruits and hints of cream. Some orange peel too. Pretty tannins.” – 94 points James Suckling, June 2011

“Graceful and elegant, very understated and delicate, with floral, spice, mint, bay leaf, currant, cedar and tobacco notes that are complex and vibrant. Full-bodied, gaining on the finish, then firming and drying. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.” – 92 points Wine Spectator, November 2011

About the producer: Opus One Winery

Opus One  is a legendary wine from Napa Valley. It started as a joint venture between Roberto Mondavi and Baron Phillipe de Rothschild in 1979. Today the domain is owned by the Baroness of Rothschild and Constellation Brands Inc. The 68 hectares’ vineyard comprises four plots; Q-Block and K-Block from famous To-Kalon vineyard, River parcel in Oakville and Ballestra vineyard. The vines are planted five to six times more densely than is typical in California, in order to produce smaller berries with less juice, more skin contact and therefore more intense flavours and aromas. Opus One is the only wine produced on the estate and aged for about eighteen month in barrel, and an additional eighteen months in bottle before release. View our selection.
