Château Guiraud is one of the few properties to be located within the village of Sauternes itself (the only other being its illustrious neighbour Château Yquem). Château Guiraud extends over 128 hectares in Sauternes and planted with 65% of Semillon and 35% of Sauvignon with an average of 35-40 years old vines. Bordeaux’s most famous dessert wine region is situated 20 miles south of the city, spanning both banks of the Garone and Ciron Rivers. These waterways provide the perfect misty morning microclimate to encourage the growth of Botrytis Cinerea (also known as Noble Rot). The rot attacks the grape evaporating the water and concentrating the sugar levels. Sauternes are some of the longest lived wines, with premium examples from exceptional vintages having the potential to last 100 years or more (in perfect conditions). They are characterized by their balance of sweetness and zest of acidity with typical notes of apricots, honey and peaches with a nutty edge.
