Pommard Joseph Voillot 2016 is available to purchase.
Admired by all of the up and coming wine makers, Jean-Pierre Charlot (Joseph Voillot’s son-in-law) is something of the grand master, most probably because at some stage he will have had a hand in their wine making education. A charming, ebullient man whose wines are designed to last the long term. They are finely balanced though and can be approached young, not his preference but he knows full well ‘chacun son gout’ (we all have our own tastes). We are lucky to have any of his wines to offer as yields in recent years have been severely limited due to hail damage.
“As good as the Volnay villages is, Charlot’s Pommard may have the edge this year. A complex nose of wild berries, spice, bitter chocolate and rich soil tones precedes a supple, elegant wine with velvety, ripe tannins, and a deep core of fruit with excellent concentration. 91 points.” William Kelley, www.decanter.com, October 2017.
