About the producer: Joseph Voillot
The Voillot family have grown vines for five generations and has a big footprint, south of Beaune, with thirty two parcels in some of the finest vineyards, all under the benevolent control of Joseph Voillot’s son-in-law, Jean Pierre Charlot. After teaching oenology during the 80’s, Jean Pierre joined the family when he married Joseph Voillot’s daughter. He has been running the Domaine for more than 20 years and brings a thoughtful, modern approach to wine making. His wines have a delicacy and purity of flavour that marks them out. Today he is also training Etienne, his nephew, to succeed him. View our selection.
Vineyard & Winemaking
The 9 hectares of vineyards are located in Volnay and Pommard and planted with Pinot Noir with an average of 40 years old vine. The estate also owns a few parcels of Chardonnay in Meursault. Jean Pierre cultivates the soil two to three times a year in order to aerate and restructure it but also drive the vine roots downward. Organic treatments are favoured but he does not aim to be certified organic. Wines are aged in oak barrel, 15 to 20% of which is new, for 14 to 16 months before bottling. Wines are never fined and filtration is avoided as much as possible.
They produce an average of 40 000bt each year, mostly red wines, under the regional ‘Bourgogne’ appellation, and prestigious Pommard and Volnay AOC, where most of the production is under the 1er Cru classification.
