South oriented, “Quinta del Obispo” is one of the best vineyards in the wine region of Bierzo.
Made with 100% Mencia, an ancient relative of Cabernet Franc, it has an intense nose of ripe black fruits with spicy and mineral notes. Round and smooth on the palate, the tannins are well balanced with the acidity. Awarded GOLD MEDAL at Sommelier Wine Awards 2017.

The Vina Albares vineyards cover around twenty five hectares, just to the south of Albares in the wine growing region of El Bierzo. Once owned by the Archbishop of Tarragona, they lie on the old pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela; some of the plots are over 100 years old and the fruit produced is of exceptional quality. The indigenous grape in this area is Mencia, a variety that has a concentrated black cherry and herbal character which makes it really special. Careful vineyard management, hand picking and thoughtful use of French oak complete the picture. View our selection.
