Product description
Quinta do Vesuvio 2017 Vintage Port is released for sale.
The first ever consecutive declaration for the Symington family is a milestone moment in their long history and is the result of two very different but extremely high-quality years for port in the Douro. Nothing less than a spectacular year would have justified the first general ‘back-to-back’ Vintage Port declaration by our family since Andrew James Symington arrived in Porto in 1882.
It is also the smallest declaration in the 21st century with yields around one third less than the 2016 vintage.
“Dark purple with purple rim. The fruit character is less wild here than in the Graham’s and Stone Terraces, more domesticated black fruit and yet just as pure and still with fine bergamot from the Touriga. Sweet baking spice on the palate leading in to highly textured tannins, as if the texture itself was spicy, but fine like layers of paper. Dense, packed with potential and less approachable than the Dow’s and Warre’s, less obviously sweet on the mid palate. But the long finish is sweet and utterly pure fruit. Wonderful persistence. Drink 2030-2067. 18.5 points.”
