Join us in the al fresco setting of Vintners Yard to celebrate the wines of Bodegas De La Marquesa, Valserrano, Rioja. We’re delighted to welcome Pablo de Simon, producer & owner of the Bodegas, to Davy’s. Pablo will join us in the heated Vintners Yard in Greenwich for a twilight tasting of wonderful wines with a sense of place. Following on from the tasting, enjoy an informal Paella dinner alongside his wines.
Valserrano is a family run winery in Rioja Alavesa with exceptionally high standards – using fruit only from their own vineyards, setting rigorous standards in the cellars and, following fermentation in stainless steel, ageing the wine in oak, part of which is renewed each year. The wines have elegance and pungency combined with the soft spicy allure that only well-made Tempranillo can offer. Already the 5th generation: Pablo, Jaime and María de Simón (sons of Juan Pablo), are assuming the different responsibilities in the company and preparing the generational changeover.
Valserrano is rapidly growing a reputation as one of Rioja’s best producers with many of the wines scoring over 90 points from world renowned wine critics including Stephen Tanzer, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate and Tim Atkin.
After a welcome glass of 2022 Rioja Blanco (92 points Decanter), Pablo will talk us through the history of the winery and winemaking in Rioja Alavasa. We’ll then taste some of the estate’s top wines including the outstanding 2018 Finca Monteviejo (94 points Tin Atkin) and 2015 Gran Reserva (94 points Tim Atkin), all of which are shipped exclusively by Davy’s. The tasting is followed by an informal Paella dinner with Pablo on hand to answer any questions.
Please note, seating may be at communal tables. Tasting & talk from 6.30-7.30pm followed by an informal paella dinner. We aim to wrap up the evening by 9.00pm
