Product description
With vineyards situated on the steep, rocky hillsides of the Northern Rhône Valley, Cave Julien Cécillon is dedicated to produce elegant, terroir driven wines which reflect the climate, soil, and character of each appellation.
‘Babylone’ is the most structured wine produced by Julien and Nancy. Aged for 18 months on oak barrels, it has harmonious aromas of black cherry and raspberry with hints of violet, pepper, thyme, and licorice. Round and deep on the palate with fine tannins makes it a wine to be drunk in its early years but also with the ability to age gracefully over time.
Awards
An intriguing mix of Old World elegance and New World polish. Gentle spiciness and a sunny generosity on the palate, but well balanced for the vintage. Oak work is measured and well integrated, it doesn’t dominate and this has a nice little saline fresh kick on the finish. I would drink this young rather than cellaring. 35-year-old vines grown on granite, 30% whole bunch, fermented with indigenous yeasts, spending 17 months in barrel, 10% new.
