Masia Carreras is a collection of small vineyard plots situated in the Catalan hillsides of the Alberes Mountain Range, where the Carreras family have produced wine since the 13th century. Towards the end of the 19th century, many of the family’s vineyards were decimated by phyloxera and only the best sites were retained and re-planted in the early part of 20th century.
The vineyard boasts a wealth of autochthonous varieties including Lladoner, a derivation of Grenache all of which have naturally evolved without the use of mass selection or implementation of uniform clones, meaning that no one vine is the same as the next. The low yielding indigenous vines are around 60-80 years old and are supplemented by younger plantings of international varieties, to provide balance when blended. The wines of Masia Carreras are complex and unique, a throwback to the great wines of long ago. Production is very limited and we are delighted to secure a small allocation of their wines for our pleasure and hopefully yours!
