The Fonterutoli estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico DOC in Tuscany and has remained in the same family for 24 generations. The Mazzei family owns 117 hectares of vine, divided in 120 parcels all harvested by hand. Grapes are vinified and matured separately in order to add complexity to the wines.
Siepi is their Super Tuscan made with an equal blend of Sangiovese and Merlot from vineyards at around 850ft and aged for 18 months in small French oak barrels, 70% of it being new. Powerful and complex with great concentration of fruits.
“Beautiful aromas of violets, berries and currants. Dried flowers too. Full body, such intense fruit and acidity. Vivid and complex. Wild raspberry. Tight and dense. A triumph of Siepi….Better in 2022 but hard not to drink now.” 98 points – James Suckling.
