En Primeur Vacqueyras Château des Roques is available for sale.
Château des Roques lies on the rocky plateau of ‘Des Roques’, a hamlet on the outskirts of Vacqueyras. Owned and run by the Seroul family since 1997, the estate is managed traditionally using natural fertilizers, tailored treatments and harvest is done by hand. Eclipsed to some extent by the wines from its more illustrious neighbours, Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras has plenty to offer and deserves to be much better known. The vineyard covers 38 hectares and has an average age of 40 year old vines. It is planted with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre for the reds.
“This 38-ha family-owned estate established in 1997 is starting to come into its own. The fruit for Cuvée du Château is destemmed before undergoing a long fermentation, then is aged for 12 months in stainless steel and demi-muid. It’s closed on the nose at the time of tasting, but the full-bodied palate is lovely and fresh, with concentrated damson and raspberry fruit. The acidity runs through it like an electricity cable, and it has a real sense of harmony and purity. This all sits on a mass of dense, chewy tannins.”
