Product description
Vacqueyras (like Gigondas) is a ‘little brother’ to Chateauneuf-du-Pape and can offer great value. Montirius is the region’s top domaine, farmed biodynamically since 1999 by Christine and Eric Saurel. ‘Le Clos’ is a unique parcel of eight and a half hectares of vines over twenty years old, lying on three different type of soil. The site is protected by eleven hectares of 100 year old oak woods, creating a micro climate with low rainfall.
Made with half Grenache and half Syrah, the wine is aged for 18 months, but with no oak. The result is a silky, full-bodied red with black fruit aromas and now hints of game and leaf mould (‘sous bois’) beginning to develop as the wines approaches full maturity. Despite all its body, the impression is of elegance and balance – smooth on the palate with velvety tannins and great length.
