We’re delighted to welcome two of Tuscany’s rising stars: Riccardo Lepri from Tenuta Montauto in Maremma and Giacomo Nardi from Nardi Viticoltori in Chianti. Both exclusive to Davy’s, this exciting tasting will take us through the many different styles and sides to Tuscany, as each producer will showcase a selection from their fantastic range of wines.
Tenuto Montauto is a family run winery in Maremma Tuscany, owned by the Montauto family for over 60 years. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Riccardo’s grandfather planted the first vineyards, and it wasn’t until 2002 that the current generation, Riccardo, decided to change his life and head home to Montauto to participate in his first ever harvest. The excellent terroir and exposition of the vineyards, are located near the Tuscan coast where gentle sea breezes make the plots ideal for the production of great white wines. Something that is different from the norm in a region that is known for gutsy reds! Montauto now has a reputation for making fantastic white wines of the highest quality with lovely minerality and freshness, alongside some sensational reds, including their 2020 Ciliegiolo, with 92 points from Vinous critic Antonio Galloni.
We will begin the tasting with Riccardo’s delicious sparkling, before tasting through the rest of the range. We’ll then be whisked over to Chianti, where Giacomo Nardi will guide us through the range of reds from his family winery.
Located in the beautiful rolling hills of the Chianti Classico region, Giacomo and his brother Angelo took over the winery from their father in 2012. With ten hectares of vines on clay soils at 300 meters above sea level, conditions are perfect for producing harmonious Sangiovese with freshness, complexity and elegance – Nardi are rightly gaining a reputation as one of Chianti’s rising stars! Giacomo will talk us through his range of wines including the fantastic Chianti Gran Selezione.
Throughout the evening, both winemakers will give us a brief introduction and history of their wineries and what makes them so special. Matched with some of their finest wines, we will also enjoy a specially prepared 4-course dinner.
