Unmaredivino

Sardinia deserves to be known more widely as a wine region, with a host of native grape varieties and sub-regions. Unmaredivino is a family run property based in the Berchidda area, founded in 1949 and now run by two brothers. The Vermentino di Gallura is a classic route to understanding Sardinian white wines; the Colli del Limbara red is from vineyards around Mount Limbara, one of the highest peaks on the island.

The People

In 1949, Gioacchino Sini planted the first family vineyard with his 2 sons, Pietrino and Pasqualino, in his homeland. After earning his degree Course in Viticulture and Oenology, Gioacchini Sini Junior took over the Domaine. Combining his oenological researches with modern technologies and manual processing, he wishes to build a new wine tradition in the region. Gioacchino likes to experiment with micro vinifications of individual parcels, and always looks for for optimal techniques and conditions to obtain the best winemaking results.

Remember the teachings of the past and make the best use of the technologies of the present.
Gioacchino Jr

The Vineyards

Surrounded by hills covered with Mediterranean forest, Berchidda rises on the southern slopes of the Limbara granite massif. The seven hectares of vines are planted with Vermentino, Carignano, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese.  Low espalier trellis (70-80 cm above the ground) and late harvest by hand are favoured for making red wines.
