The Best Expressions Of Sauvignon Blanc

Originating from Bordeaux, Sauvignon Blanc is popular for its citrus, grassy and green pepper aromas. The grape is widely planted across the globe but thrives in cooler climate due to its high acidity. The best examples are found in the Loire Valley, on the typical silex soils of Sancerre where it reveals flinty aromas and in New Zealand, where it is known for its pungent, tropical character.

Up-and-coming areas such as Maremma in Tuscany, Balatoni in Hungary and Elgin Valley in South Africa, also benefits from a cool climate and are particularly well-suited for this early ripening grape with excellent results. Due to its herbaceous character, Sauvignon Blanc is almost never aged in oak except for the production of Fumé Blanc, with the best examples to be found in California and Adelaide Hills in Australia.

This month, to celebrate International Sauvignon Blanc Day, we have carefully selected our six favourite expressions of this unique grape variety.
