What Is A Bin-End Sale?

Bin-end sales: great discounts on fantastic wine!

Traditionally, a ‘bin’ referred to the numbered bays in a wine merchant’s cellar, and a ‘bin-end’ simply meant the last bottles left in that bay. Today, a bin-end sale is still about clearing the final bottles of certain wines, but it can also include a handful of other special cases. What it never means is a compromise on quality — only that the wine is down to its last few bottles or needs to make way for something new.

We explain the reasons behind providing these bargain wines so you can be confident about the quality of the wines on offer.

How do wines get selected for the bin end sale?

Good wine housekeeping

We taste our wines regularly to ensure that the quality is optimum when it reaches your glass. However, our stock may move a little slower than anticipated at times. If we feel that a wine has reached its maturity and has a few years left to be enjoyed, but it will take us longer to sell it, we will temporarily discount it. Only a limited quantity of wine is available at the reduced price, so don’t delay!

Change of vintages

When a new vintage arrives, the easiest way to make space is to offer the previous one at a reduced price. These are often drinking beautifully and sometimes still have years ahead of them — it’s a chance to enjoy great wines while saving a little too.

Damage to wine labels

It is what’s inside that matters! If a label has been damaged, we will discount the bottle to reflect this. The label may have been stained or scratched while we removed it from its box or when placing it in our wine racks. Whether in our Victorian cellars, wine bars, or shops, our wines are stored in the right conditions, with no natural light and at the right temperature.

Loose wine bottles

We have an extensive selection of fine and rare wines available in their original wooden case. These wines are rarely available by the bottle, but we may from time to time open a case for an event. Following this, you may be able to afford these little gems at broker prices. A rare chance to enjoy wines that normally aren’t sold by the single bottle and a great deal for the wine enthusiast!
