Château George 7

Château George 7 is a brand-new boutique winery in Fronsac, the lesser-known right bank appellation where Merlot flourishes. The wines of Fronsac share similar characteristics with their illustrious neighbours Pomerol and St. Emilion. In 2015, Owner Sally Evans acquired a small vineyard in the area. Guided by experts Anthony Appollot and Bruno Lacoste, Ch. George 7 is already gathering recognition aplenty. Read more...

The People

After a career at a global consulting company in France, Owner Sally Evans followed her passion in wine. In 2015 she made the inspired decision to purchase a dilapidated property and empty winery in Fronsac. She then equipped the winery, and shifted to sustainable farming of the vines ready for her first full vintage in 2018. Bringing wine together with her passion for training and communicating, Sally was accredited as a tutor of the Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux the following year and has renovated an old tractor barn into a wine tourism centre with a tasting room and terrace to receive visitors. The winery has now been rebuilt with tasting facilities.

The estate is overseen by Anthony Appolot, who works sustainably with the greatest attention to detail in the vineyard and in the winery. Oenologist Bruno Lacoste, who started his career with Michel Rolland, is also helping her to create wines that captures the essence of the exciting potential of Fronsac.

The Vineyards

Nestled in the heart of Saillans, Fronsac, the three hectares of vines are planted with 35-year-old Merlot. This variety flourishes on excellent terroir of clay soil over an underlying limestone plateau. Following sustainable practices, soil and vine health are optimised by increasing biodiversity and restoring natural balance in the vineyard. Château George 7 is certified sustainable through the French programme Haute Valeur Environmentale (high Environmental value) at the highest level.

The Wines

The estate produces AOC Fronsac reds that capture the essence of the area’s potential: fruit-forward, fresh with a touch of minerality along with silky tannins and a lingering elegance and finesse. They also produce a fresh white AOC Bordeaux Blanc with ripe stone fruits and a beautiful mouthfeel from new barrel fermentation.
