The People
This estate was purchased by Joseph Moron in 1889 and 80 years later, the first wine was bottled on site. Bertrand Sourdais, fifth generation, took over the estate in 2005. After a collaboration with well-regarded estate Ch. Leoville Las Cases and Ch. Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux, he went to Spain to start a project in Ribera del Duero. His personal experience has allowed him to express a contemporary and genuine style combined with the own features of the terroir in Pallus.
The Vineyards
The estate benefits from a unique situation within Chinon. Surrounded by vineyards in the middle slope, it lies on clay and calcairous soils which are considered the best of the appellation. Fully converted organic since 2009, the estate spreads over 14 hectares of vines and is divided in three parts; Les Pensées de Pallus (sand and calcairous rock known as tuffeau), La Rougerie (clay) and La Croix Boissée (clay and calcairous). Following biodynamic principles, Bertrand takes care of his terroir with natural treatments (500 are being used) and his own compost.
The Wines
Cabernet Franc has found its perfect terroir in the clay and calcairous soils of Cravant les Coteaux. Its subtle aromas of red fruit and soft tannins contribute to its recognized prestige.
